Tom Zilker ist Fotograf aus Leidenschaft, lebt und arbeitet in München. Neben der künstlerischen Fotografie gilt sein Hauptaugenmerk der Portrait- und Menschenfotografie.
Aufgewachsen im beschaulichen Erding in Oberbayern hat er sich bereits sehr früh mit Fotografie beschäftigt. Die von seinem Vater überlassene analoge Spiegelreflex war für ihn der Eintritt in die faszinierende Welt des fotografischen Sehens. Doch folgte erst ein „normales“ Studium der Wirtschaftsinformatik und die Arbeit in Marketing und Vertrieb eines globalen IT-Unternehmens, bevor er sich wieder der Fotografie zuwandte. Zuerst als Hobby, Leidenschaft und Nebenberuf, bis er sich im Januar 2011 vollständig der Fotografie als selbständiger Fotodesigner in München verschrieb.
In seinen Bildern dreht sich vieles um Menschen, um emotionale, künstlerisch gestaltete Bilder, gesehen in einer manchmal etwas anderen Perspektive. Die Lichtmalerei überspitzt und übertreibt dieses andere Sehen, erarbeitet mit Licht, Bewegung und Unschärfe ein neues Abbild bekannter Motive. Dem Betrachter wird keine Interpretation vorgegeben, es bleibt Raum zum Entdecken und für Emotionen.

[:en]Tom Zilker’s passion is for photography and he lives and works in Munich. Alongside artistic photography, his main focus is on portraiture and photographing people.
Growing up in the tranquil town of Erding in Upper Bavaria, he took an interest in photography at a very early age. The analogue SLR camera given to him by his father was his introduction to the fascinating world of photographic vision. Nevertheless, he initially undertook a “conventional” course of studies in Information Management for Business and worked in the marketing and sales department of a global IT company before turning once again to photography. At first this was as a hobby, passion and sideline, until in January 2011 he decided to dedicate himself completely to photography as a freelance photo designer in Munich.
In his pictures, much of the focus is on people, and on emotional, artistically created images, sometimes seen from a perspective that is quite different from the norm. Light painting exaggerates and takes to extremes this different way of looking at things, and with light, movement and blurring produces a new impression of familiar motifs. The viewer is not presented with an interpretation; instead there is room for discovery and emotions.
